From CSDMS
PostDoc, Simulation of coupled groundwater-surface water systems
Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research, UFZ, , Germany
Apply before: 10 February 2019

Subject: Simulation of coupled groundwater-surface water systems

Working time: 100 % (39 hours per week), at first limited to 3 years, earliest possible starting date: 1st April 2019

Your tasks:

  • Set-up and application of numerical models for coupled groundwater-surface water systems at key TERENO field sites
  • Simulation of hydrologically mediated biogeochemical turnover
  • Explorative modeling to develop new parsimonious model concepts for water and solute dynamics (e.g. via dynamic residence times)
  • Support of scientists and students in the department in modeling tasks
  • Development of a research profile within the interdisciplinary team of the department in line with the programme oriented research at UFZ in the respective field

Your profile:
The potential candidate should have a Ph.D. degree and a strong background in at least one of the following disciplines: hydrology/hydrogeology, geosciences or environmental sciences (with a focus on water), civil or environmental engineering or related natural sciences. Skills in hydrologic modelling of coupled groundwater-surface water systems are mandatory. Experience in numerical codes for the coupled simulation of groundwater-surface water systems (e.g. HydroGeoSphere, OGS, InHM, PARFLOW or similar) as well as skills in the simulation of biogeochemical processes and transport are additional assets.
