This position will be stationed out of our Central Office in downtown Madison. This position will work out of the Department of Natural Resources Central Office building, downtown Madison, WI, however, telework may be available for up to 60% of the work week. Position Summary
The Water Use Hydrogeologist is responsible for providing professional geologic and hydrogeologic expertise in carrying out the Water Use Section’s program responsibilities. The person in this position functions as part of a statewide team and is responsible for implementing the high capacity well portion of the state Water Supply program. The Water Use Hydrogeologist is responsible for technical analysis of high capacity well applications to assess for impacts, along with issuing high capacity well approvals as needed. This work involves the application of hydrogeological, water resources, well construction, technical program knowledge, and interpretation and application of state statutes, administrative codes and DNR policies and procedures. The person in this position deals on a routine and continuous basis with hydrogeological issues that require interpretation, judgement and have a major impact on department actions and future decisions.

Salary Information
Starting pay is $32 - $38/hour for this position ($66,560 - $ 79,040 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan. Current State employees applying as a transfer applicant will require DPM approval for a pay increase.
This position is in Pay Schedule / Range 15-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Job Details
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications
Please describe the below qualifications in your resume and letter of qualifications to be considered for this position:
- Required qualifications for this position include experience in all of the following:
- Education, training, or experience related to hydrology, geology, or water resource management.
- Experience in assembling, analyzing, and interpreting hydrogeologic and hydrologic information, including groundwater and surface water interactions.
- Experience communicating scientific or regulatory information to an audience in a variety of communication formats.
- Best-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred qualifications:
- Experience in Wisconsin Geology.
- Experience in completing technical reviews of groundwater quantity impacts.
- Experience interpreting and applying law or policy related to water withdrawals and use.
- Education, training, or experience in hydrogeologic evaluations related to water quantity.
