The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position that will begin on August 21, 2023. This is a full-time, 9-month position. We seek a broadly-based Earth scientist who will complement our existing teaching and research strengths. The research specialization for this position is open. The successful candidate's specific field of expertise may include but is not limited to global environmental change, climate science, critical zone science, hydrology, geohealth, geodesy, geodynamics, the study of Earth's deep interior, rock deformation, and structural geology. The successful candidate will teach one or more core courses in our environmental sciences and geological sciences programs. These will be in structural geology, hydrology, Earth materials or petrology, data science, or GIS and remote sensing applications. The successful candidate is also expected to develop advanced courses that contribute to our Environmental Science B.S., Geological Sciences B.S. and B.A., and Earth Sciences M.S. programs.
The candidate hired to fill this position will establish an independent, externally funded research program that includes mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. They are expected to provide service to the Department, College, and University while supporting our broader mission of diversity and inclusion; we welcome candidates who seek to incorporate elements of environmental justice into their courses.
