Two tenure-track positions in Rennes (France): Earth Mathematical Modelling / Water Resources
Université de Rennes1, , France
Start reviewing process: 4 May 2022

We have two tenure-track positions opening soon in Rennes (France). These selective positions (entitled "Chaire Professeur Junior") will lead, after a tenure phase of 3-6 years (associated to a significantly reduced teaching load), to a full and permanent Professor position. These positions also come with a startup package of ~400 k€. We particularly seek early-to-mid career colleagues, with a clearly established research line and a good scientific track-record.

The first position, opened at the Earth Sciences department in Rennes (University of Rennes), is focused on water resources, with approaches including hydrology, hydrogeology, geomorphology, geochemistry, geophysics, modelling, field monitoring etc. Teaching will take place at the bachelor/master level for students focused on water and environmental Sciences.

The second position, opened at the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology in Rennes (in collab with the Earth Sciences department), is focused on the mathematical and numerical modelling of the Earth dynamics or water dynamics. This includes approaches such as forward or inverse numerical modeling, deep/machine learning, etc. Application of these approaches to issues related to hydrology/hydrogeology, geomorphology, geodynamics, fractures and reservoirs, etc, are particularly welcome. Teaching will take place at the bachelor/master level for students in applied mathematics and numerical modelling.

The hiring process will take place this spring to early summer. You can contact me (, Olivier Bour ( or Dimitri Lague ( for inquiries about these positions and the hiring process (please include a CV in your email).
