Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental GIS and Geospatial Data Science Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science

The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science (GIS), in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications and nominations for a full-time 9-month (academic year) tenure-track Assistant Professor with research and teaching experience in Environmental GIS and Geospatial Data Science. We seek individuals with advanced expertise in data-intensive geospatial modeling and spatiotemporal analytics as well as subject-area expertise to complement existing department strengths in human and/or biophysical dimensions of environmental sustainability.

Our ideal candidate is expected to conduct theoretical and empirical work in GIS and geospatial data science. We are open to a range of application areas, including environmental justice, health disparities, urban studies, water resources science and policy, or any research focused on sustainable and resilient environmental systems. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and advanced undergraduate courses on GIS and geospatial data science, graduate seminars, and potentially an application course. The successful candidate is expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the Department, the University, and the profession. The candidate will have significant opportunities to develop collaborations with other departments and units across campus, such as the CyberGIS Center for Advanced Digital and Spatial Studies; Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment; National Center for Supercomputing Applications; and School of Earth, Society, and Environment. Qualifications
Applicants must have completed all requirements of a Ph.D. in geography, GIS, or a related field by mid-June for a preferred start date of August 16, 2022. Evidence of an active research agenda, solid teaching experience, and strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to working with students or faculty from groups historically marginalized or underrepresented in the field through teaching, mentoring, or administration are especially encouraged to apply.
