From CSDMS
Postdoctoral opportunity in Simulation of solute dynamics and export at catchment-scale
Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), , Germany
Apply before: 27 August 2021

At the Department of Hydrogeology at UFZ we seek a motivated, internationally visible Post-Doc with strong skills in the characterization and simulation of solute transport, turnover and export from catchments to complement and strengthen our team. Our research focuses on water and solute dynamics in catchments and at the groundwater-surface water interface as well as links between hydrology and biogeochemistry.

Post-Doc at Dep. Hydrogeology (d/f/m)
Subject: Simulation of solute dynamics and export at catchment-scale
working time: 100 % (39 h / week), limited for three years
Your tasks:

  • Contributions to the development of new parsimonious model concepts for water and solute dynamics in catchments
  • Data-driven evaluation integrating water quantity, water quality and ecological response at catchment- and larger scale
  • Support of students in the department in questions on water quality assessments and modelling concepts
  • Development of a research profile within the interdisciplinary team of the department in line with the programme oriented research at UFZ in the respective field

Your profile:

  • Ph.D. degree and a strong background in at least one of the following disciplines: hydrology/hydrogeology, geosciences or environmental sciences (with a focus on water), civil or environmental engineering or related natural sciences
  • General skills in the data-driven analysis and the modelling of flow, transport and turnover are required
  • Specific experience with conceptual hydrologic models (e.g. mHM or similar), and/or numerical codes for simulation of flow and transport (e.g. HydroGeoSphere, OGS or similar) and/or isotopic methods to characterize flow and turnover processes are additional assets

We offer:

  • Excellent technical facilities which are without parallel
  • The freedom you need to bridge the difficult gap between basic research and close to being ready for application
  • Work in inter-disciplinary, multinational teams and excellent links with national and international research networks
  • A vibrant region with a high quality of life and a wide cultural offering for a balance between family and professional life
  • Interesting career opportunities and an extensive range of training and further education courses
  • Remuneration up to the TVöD public-sector pay grade 13 including attractive public-sector social security benefits
