Job Description: We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated researcher to advance our on-going research in applying machine learning methods, optimization algorithms and efficient computing frameworks for hydrologic modelling and watershed management. This work is part of a MITACS Accelerate industrial partnership between the Watershed group at University of Guelph led by Dr. Daggupati (https://www.uoguelph.ca/ceps/people/prasad-daggupati) and the software development team at Greenland International Consulting (www.grnland.com). The successful candidate will lead on-going development of i) Machine Learning algorithms for streamflow modelling (and forecasting) in rivers and ii) web-based frameworks for visualization of forecasted stream-flows for early flood and drought warning.


Qualifications: The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD degree (with Graduation Date within the last 5 Years) in Applied Hydrology, Water Systems Engineering, Hydro-informatics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a related field, with knowledge of both hydrology and data-driven modelling. Strong computer programming and data analytics skills in R/Python are required, and web development skills are a plus. Previous research experience in development of Machine Learning algorithms using LSTMs, Random Forests etc., is a strong plus. The candidate is also expected to demonstrate strong ability of publication of research findings in high-impact scientific journals. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed and the successful candidate should be able to work independently/collaboratively and communicate results to a wide variety of audience.


Availability and Appointment: This is a full-time position and is available immediately. The initial appointment period would be for 1 year and could be extended upon fund availability and satisfactory performance.
