From CSDMS
PhD student position in glacier modeling at Carnegie Mellon University (USA)
Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, United States
Apply before: 15 June 2021

Dear colleagues,

I'm seeking to hire a fully-funded PhD student position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (USA) focused on global glacier modeling and remote sensing.

The research will use the Python Glacier Evolution Model (PyGEM) to improve projections of glacier mass change and glacier runoff. A focus will be on improving model physics, quantifying uncertainties, and producing and integrating remote sensing datasets for model calibration and validation. The student will be highly involved with the NASA High Mountain Asia Team (HiMAT) and NASA Sea Level Change Team (SLCT).

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in civil engineering, earth science, computer science, or related field. The candidate should have a strong quantitative background and experience with (or willingness to learn) programming. Applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. All applicants will receive full consideration irrespective of race, color, nationality, gender, religion, age, identity, or disability.

Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis through June 15, 2021. Preferred starting date is September 2021, but can be negotiated. Please contact me at drounce@cmu.edu if you have any questions or send me your CV if you're interested in the position.

Thanks, David
