From CSDMS
Postdoctoral Researcher in water quality modelling
Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, , Switzerland
Apply before: 31 March 2020

The position is part of a project funded by the Swiss Federal Office for The Environment (FOEN) entitled “Feasibility study for Evaluating the National Pesticide Action Plan (Mach-barkeitsstudie Trendanalyse und räumliche Übertragbarkeit von Pestizid-Monitoringdaten)”. The project investigates the feasibility of quantifying reductions of pesticide pollution in Swiss streams triggered by the National Pesticide Action Plan. Specifically, it investigates how well temporal trends in pesticide concentration data series from established monitoring programs can be detected and how such trends can be extrapolated across the Swiss river network. The results from the project will be used to formulate guidelines for practitioners how to evaluate such data in the fu-ture. The project will adapt existing model tools to simulate existing pesticide data sets in Switzerland, to estimate predictive uncertainty and to derive practical recommendations for future data analysis.

The transdisciplinary project is led by Dr Christian Stamm (Uchem) in close collaboration with the other research partners of Siam (Dr Fabrizio Fenicia, Ruth Scheidegger) and the VSA Platform Water Quality (Drs. Anne Dietzel, Tobias Doppler). The starting date is 1 July 2020 and the pro-ject duration will be 1.5 years.

We are looking for excellent candidates with a solid background in hydrological/water quality modelling, experience in data (time series) and uncertainty analysis. GIS knowledge is an asset. The candidates like to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and are interested in contrib-uting to science-based support for practice. Experiences with diffuse pollution from agricultural sources is an asset. Knowledge of German or French are an advantage but not necessary.
