From CSDMS
MS or PhD position in coastal hazards and resilience
Virginia Tech, Virginia, United States
Start reviewing process: 9 March 2020

Dear colleagues,

If you know of an undergraduate student looking for a MS project, or a MS student looking for a PhD project in coastal hazards and resilience, I am looking for an MS or PhD student for a funded project. The project is hosted in the Department of Geosciences, but is part of the Disaster Resilience and Risk Management program (https://www.drrm.fralin.vt.edu/index.php) and the Coastal Hazards group (http://coastalhazardsvt.weebly.com) within Virginia Tech’s Center for Coastal Studies (https://coastal.fralinlifesci.vt.edu). The project is partially funded by the United States Coastal Research Program and the National Science Foundation. Sponsor requirements limit the funding to United States citizens and greencard holders.

The focus of the project ranges from quantitative compound flooding analysis via the development of low-fidelity regional models to model reduction. The project will make use of Virginia Tech’s Advanced Research Computing facilities (https://www.arc.vt.edu), and the candidate will be integrated in an interdisciplinary student cohort within the Center for Coastal Studies.

If you know of a student who might be interested in such a project, please encourage the student to email me at weiszr@vt.edu.
