Graduate Research Assistant Position in Environmental Fluid Dynamics at Penn State University

The Environmental Fluid Dynamics Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Penn State University has a graduate research assistant position opening starting in the spring or fall of 2020. This position is funded through a 3-year NSF project on nature-based solutions for river restoration. The focus of this project is to investigate the fundamental hydrodynamics and sediment transport around restoration structures mimicking nature, such as large woody debris and engineered log jams. Both laboratory experiments and computational modeling will be performed. In addition, this project also involves collaborations with field experts and non-profit organizations such as American Rivers.


Requirements and qualifications: Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields with a focus on fluid mechanics, or water resources engineering in general. Prior experience with flow measurement or computer modeling is a plus.
