HPCCprojects:Teaching basics of modeling in earth systems
Teaching basics of modeling in earth systems
Project description
We are using CSDMS in a course offered at University of Minnesota Duluth titled 'Creative problem solving in earth science.' This is a project based course, focused on providing an overview of quantitative tools and models and how to start creating them.
Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to (i) evaluate and critique an existing model, (ii) quantify and predict changes in systems, and (iii) develop simple models to explain physical systems.
Time-line
This course is taught in the spring semester 2015, running from January through May.
Models in use
We will be using the web modeling tool, utilizing a variety of models that are best suited to the students academic/research interests. Components used as examples will include Sedflux, hydrotrend and avulsion.
Funding
