Sediment Supply Numerical Experiments

This lab uses the CSDMS Modeling Tool to do a number of simple sediment supply simulations. Students use the HydroTrend Model to explore effects of next century climate changes on river fluxes. In addition, we run simulations to look at the effect of humans on rivers: the building of a reservoir. PDF

Landscape Evolution Numerical Experiments

WILSIM: the Web-based Interactive Landform Simulation Model helps you understand how a landscape evolves under different conditions. It allows you to look at the effects of landscape geometry, climate and tectonics and see how a river network develops over time. It is designed to be used in education at different levels of complexity, so it can be used in undergraduate as well as graduate teaching. WILSIM runs through your internet browser and can be accessed here: WILSIM homepage.

Coastal Stratigraphy Numerical Experiments

The excercise is intended for graduate level teaching. The zipped file contains an executable of a teaching model, BarSim, developed originally by J. Storms. The archive contains notes for a 3-hour computer lab as well as the background literature. The excercise allows students hands-on experience with a simple stratigraphic model to get insight in setting up stratigraphic simulation experiments. Focus is on exploration of the effects of external forcing factors, i.e. sediment supply and sea-level, on wave-dominated coasts and barrier islands.
