The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and graduate supervision. Excellence in research can be demonstrated through publications in top venues as well as demonstration of broader impact of research outcomes as shown through, for example, research citations, research awards, and successful development of a funded research program. Excellence in teaching can be demonstrated through successful teaching experiences with quantitative courses, demonstrated commitment to teaching, and the creation of inclusive classrooms. Excellence in graduate supervision can be demonstrated through an existing track record of successful graduate student mentorship, other mentorship activities, and demonstration of supervisory potential.

Formed in 2019, the School of Environmental Science is a growing department within the Faculty of Environment at Simon Fraser University, committed to training the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists prepared to tackle global environmental problems. A concise cover letter that addresses: 1) candidate’s legal status to work in Canada, 2) reasons for applying to the position, and 3) a narrative description highlighting evidence that the candidate meets the job qualifications and can effectively perform the listed job duties. A complete up-to-date curriculum vitae that lists the candidate's education and employment history, publications and conference presentations, funding and awards, student supervision, collaborations/partnerships, teaching experience, and service activities. A research statement (maximum two pages) that describes the candidate's research experience, goals, and a five-year plan for their research program. A teaching statement (maximum one page) that describes the candidate's teaching philosophy, experience, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. A statement (maximum one page) describing past and potential contributions to enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within research, service, and teaching. Two samples of relevant peer-reviewed publications. The names, titles, and email addresses of 3 or 4 referees. Referees will be contacted by SFU for candidates advancing to the later stages of the selection process. Reference letters will only be requested from short-listed candidates.
