The shoreface diffusivity is used to describe a depth-dependent characteristic response time of the shoreface. Using typical values, we show that the response timescales get overwhelmingly large (over a 1000 years) at depths between 10 and 30 meters. This suggests a type of morphodynamic “depth of closure”. In other words, sediment transport and profile evolution continue beyond this depth but, based on these large timescales, evolution becomes geologically slow and response is virtually non-existent.
