Extended Contouring Package v1.0 for Matlab (tm) ------------------------------------------------ Have you ever wished: - that contour accepted matrix X and Y arguments, in the same way that pcolor/mesh/surface do? - that you could draw filled contours? - that you could get publication-quality labels onto your contour map, either all at the same angle, or aligned with the contours? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" (perhaps with an added "#(*&%$" for good measure), then you should try EXTCONTOUR! This driver routine, along with associated primitive functions, allows you to do all these things simply and easily. This example illustrates most of the features available: % generate a distorted X/Y grid Xx=[1:.05:2]'*[-10:10]; Yy=[-10:10]'*[1:.05:2]; % generate a surface of some kind, perhaps with NaNs in it. Zz=sin(Xx/3).*cos(Yy/2).*exp(-Yy/10)+randn(21,21)/5+Yy/2; Zz(15:21,12:15)=NaN+Zz(15:21,12:15); % Draw filled labelled contours for the given levels. Make thick dashed % contour lines coloured 'y', with 12-point labels. Labels will % be aligned with contours. extcontour(Xx,Yy,Zz,[-5:1:5],'fill','label',72, ... 'fontsize',12,'linewidth',2,'--y'); Note that EXTCONTOUR recognizes a number of line and text object properties which can be specified on calling. Finally, keep in mind that the placement and orientation of labels is done so that printed output is correct. Screen output may be less beautiful. The EXTCONTOUR package includes the following files: readme : this file extcontour.m : a driver routine for all options (replaces CONTOUR) contourfill.m: similar to CONTOUR but fills regions contoursurf.m: a replacement for CONTOURC that accepts X/Y matrices extclabel.m : a replacement for CLABEL that gives nice looking results. ---- Author: Rich Pawlowicz (rich@ios.bc.ca), Date: 20/12/1994 Institute of Ocean Sciences, Sydney, British Columbia, V8L 4B2 Canada.
