Students… It's time to apply for the CSDMS STUDENT MODELER AWARD.

Applications due by January 7, 2014

CSDMS invites graduate and undergraduate students from earth and computer sciences to compete for the Annual Student Modeler Award. If you have completed an outstanding research project in 2013, which involved developing or applying an earth science model (terrestrial, coastal, marine or biogeochemistry), a modeling tool, or module-linking technology, you can qualify! Entries will be judged on the basis of ingenuity, applicability, and contribution towards the advancement of geoscience modeling by a panel of experts in the field.

To apply, submit the following to csdms@colorado.edu by January 7th, 2014:

  • a 1‐page abstract highlighting your results
  • a digital copy of your thesis or research paper,
  • contact information of your supervisor.

Recipients of this year’s award will be announced by late January 2014. The winner will receive a fully funded trip* to Boulder, Colorado to attend the CSDMS annual to learn all about the CSDMS and possibly have an opportunity to work with CSDMS scientists to develop your model into a CSDMS component. The meeting will be May 20-22, 2014.

The Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System deals with the Earth's surface-the ever changing, dynamic interface between lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and atmosphere. We promote the modeling of earth surface processes by developing, and disseminating integrated software modules that predict the movement of fluids, and the flux (production, erosion, transport, and deposition) of sediment and solutes in landscapes and their sedimentary basins.
