Channel features range from sub-meter to kilometer scale and processes along river networks vary from instantaneous to geologic time scales. In the face of changes in forcings and anthropogenic modifications on the Earth surface, analysis and modeling of river systems is challenged by this vast range of scales and lack of measurements capable of capturing the heterogeneity that characterizes river systems. Remotely sensed data provide access to spatial and temporal information that can be integrated with modeling and field observations. In this presentation, I will show examples of river network studies that integrate multiple sources of data to address issues of flooding and coastal resilience. I will also discuss existing challenges and opportunities for future research.
