Model Description

Model type: Modular model for the coastal domain.
Description: RCPWAVE is a 2D steady state monocromatic short wave model for simulating wave propagation over arbitrary bahymetry.

Technical information

Supported platforms: Windows
Programming language: Fortran77
Model development started at: 1984 and stopped in 1989
To what degree will the model become available: Executable
Current license type: GPL v2, Commercial
Memory requirements: typical
Typical run time: minutes to hours

Input / Output description

Input parameters: 2D bathymetric grid, offshore boundary wave height period and direction
Input format: ASCII, Binary
Output parameters: wave height, period, and direction throughout the specified computational domain
Output format: ASCII, Binary
Post-processing software (if needed): Yes, pre- and post-processing, and visualiztion tools provided in software package
Visualization software (if needed): Yes, provided

Process description

Processes represented by model: Computes wave refraction and diffraction processes over an arbitrary bathymetry constrained only to have mild bottom slopes.
Key physical parameters & equations: Linear nearshore wave transformation numerical model for estimating wave transformation over an arbitrary bathymetry constrained to have mild bottom slopes. The model is based on the numerical solution of the parabolic approximation of the velocity potential of the forward scattered wave field.
Length scale & resolution constraints: regional scale model
Time scale & resolution constraints: Steady state model
Numerical limitations and issues : Linear wave theory
