One-line model description Permafrost Active Layer Thickness Model based on Kudryavtsev's parametrization
Extended model description Models the temporal and spatial distribution of the active layer thickness and temperature of permafrost soils. The underlying approximation accounts for effects of air temperature, snow cover, vegatation, soil moisture, soil thermal properties to predict temperature at the ground surface and mean active layer thickness.

Describe processes represented by the model Kudryavtsev's parametrization treats a permafrost environment as a system of individual layers, each with their own thermal properties.

Air, snow, vegetation, soil each are separate layers and their thermal (insulatory effects) are quantified from layer thickness, their heat capacity and conductivity.
