Assistant Director, Data Visualization Laboratory

The Assistant Director of the Center for Integrated Environmental Systems Research (CIESR) Data Visualization Laboratory oversees the daily operation of the facility, which includes a state-of-the-art data visualization space including three-dimensional rendering, wall-sized display, and individual graphics workstations. The Assistant Director is also responsible for user training and support, maintenance of computers and geophysical field equipment, scheduling and support of lab users from across the university. They will also participate in the production, interpretation, and dissemination of geophysical and geospatial data. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that the computational infrastructure of CIESR located within the Data Visualization Laboratory operates efficiently while maintaining the highest standards to optimize the research productivity and educational opportunities for BC faculty and staff, students, their collaborators, and other external users.

The Assistant Director will directly supervise and assist undergraduate and graduate students each year from Boston College and outside institutions as they conduct research in the Data Visualization Laboratory. The Assistant Director should have at least four years of experience in computational geosciences or geophysical modeling including a master’s degree, or similar experience in a related field is the minimum required. Doctoral degree is highly desirable. Experience in managing a data visualization laboratory is highly desirable.

Occasional out of hours availability required in case issues emerge with instruments or users. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. This is currently a grant-funded position for 2 ½ years with the possibility for continued funding beyond that period.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $74,050 to $92,550; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
