PostDoc position “Plant and Water Modeller” (m/f/d)

(Position number: 60-2021-PostDoc position)

as part of the PIK working group “Hydroclimatic Risks”, starting on 01.02.2022.

The position is funded until June 2024. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Model studies combining plant and water processes for natural vegetation and agriculture
  • Independent research and academic publishing activity in plant and water sciences or related fields
  • Representation of the project at international and national academic conferences
  • Development of the project: academic output, knowledge transfer and capacity building in workshops and seminars
  • Supervision of Master and PhD students
  • Support of the project coordination

Requirements:

  • PhD in agriculture, plant biology, hydrology, geosciences, environmental sciences or similar
  • At least 3-year experience in process-based vegetation or agricultural modeling, ideally combined with hydrological modeling
  • Profound programming skills in Fortran or C and in Python or R
  • Excellent expertise in plant biology, agriculture, geosciences, environmental

sciences, hydrology, sustainable development, climate impact analysis

  • Profound understanding of physical processes and mathematical methods
  • Knowledge of the Russian language would be an advantage
